Discover Arts Square and the surrounding area (исследуйте площадь Искусств и её окрестности)
Arts Square is situated between Inzhenernaya Street and I_____ Street. The architectural complex of the square consists of the Mikhailovsky Palace (home to the State R_____ Museum), the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the Saint Petersburg Theatre of Musical Comedy, the Russian Museum of Ethnography, the Grand Hall of the D.D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonia and the Grand Hotel Europe. A monument to Alexander P_____ stands in the middle of the square.

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Bl_____
Do not be deceived by the festive and gingerbready look of this cathedral: it was built on the spot where emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded as a result of his attempted assassination.

2️⃣
Field of M_____ is a large square in the centre of Saint Petersburg. Over its long history it has been alternately a meadow, park, pleasure garden, military parade ground, revolutionary pantheon and public meeting place.

G_____ Canal springs from the Moyka near the Field of M_____ and flows into the Fontanka. Along the canal's embankment are the House of the Book, The Church of the Savior on Spilled Bl_____ and the Kazan Cathedral. The Bank Bridge crosses the canal.

I_____ Castle (Saint Michael's Castle) This castle, built directly on top of water, was commissioned by emperor Paul I and became the place of his death. Residents of Saint Petersburg believe that his ghost lives in the castle. Another legend is connected to the colors of its walls: according to one account, the color matched the gloves of the emperor's girlfriend.

I_____ Street goes from the G_____ Canal to the Fontanka Embankment. It intersects with the Arts and Manezhnaya Squares.
The street was named after the I_____ Palace, which had been built there in 1739 and demolished in the early 19th century.

There are several statues of Russia's greatest poet, Alexander P_____, in St. Petersburg but the finest of them is probably that which stands in front of the State Russian Museum on Arts Square. The monument was created by sculptor Mikhail Anikushin to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg.

The State R_____ Museum is the world's largest depository of Russian fine art. The museum was established on April 13, 1896, upon enthronement of the emperor Nicholas II to commemorate his father, Alexander III.

Discover Rubinstein Street, The Fontanka Embankment and the surrounding area (исследуйте улицу Рубинштейна, набережную Фонтанки и их окрестности)
Rubinstein Street leading from Nevsky Prospect to Five C_____ is full of cultural spots, delicious cafes and restaurants.

Fontanka River crosses the central part of the city. It was named like that because of the pipes that lay above the river and brought water to the fountains of the Summer Garden.

A_____ Theatre is the second most popular theatre after the Mariinsky Theatre. It might remind you of The Bolshoi Theatre because of the similar architectural style and Apollo's Quadriga (квадрига Аполлона).

A_____ Bridge is the oldest and most famous bridge across the Fontanka River. As well as its four famous horse sculptures, the bridge has some of the most celebrated ornate iron railings in Saint Petersburg.

Olga B_____
"No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten" – one of the most famous phrases surrounding the deeds of the Great Patriotic War heroes – was written by Leningrad poet Olga B_____.
During the blockade, she lived in Leningrad, where she worked as a radio announcer and reached out to the citizens almost every day. Her poems are dedicated to the heroism and courage of the defenders of Leningrad.
You can find a memorial plaque (мемориальная доска) on the house where she lived.

B_____-B_____ Palace is a Neo-Baroque palace at the crossing (на перекрёстке) of Nevsky Prospect and the Fontanka, which is just a short walk from the A_____ Bridge. The authentic interiors have been preserved in the palace. Today, it is home to several organizations, including a cultural center.

C_____ The Great is a Russian empress who ruled in the 18th century. The monument to C_____ The Great is located in front of the A_____ Theatre. She is dressed in her official gown and holds a scepter in her right hand and an olive wreath in her left hand. The pedestal is decorated with the symbols of royal power. She is surrounded by 9 historical figures, such as Alexander Suvorov, Prince Potiomkin, Ekaterina Dashkova, the celebrated poet Gavrila Derzhavin and a few others.

Sergei D_____ is the wittiest writer in Saint Petersburg. His literature is told from the perspective of an intellectual who makes laughter sad and makes sadness funny.
Find an unusual monument with a doorframe of the apartment where Sergei used to live. His house is near at hand, by the way.

F. M. D_____
He is a Russian writer and philosopher. He depicts a special version of Saint Petersburg – a combination of the fictional and the real – where the poor student Raskolnikov (protagonist of the novel Crime and Punishment) murders an elderly pawnbroker with an axe and a beggar boy appears at Christ's Christmas Tree. On top of that, D_____ always lived in corner houses. You can learn more after visiting the his Memorial Museum located at Kuznechny Lane.

Five C_____

"Five C_____" is the unofficial name of the famous crossroads on Zagorodny Prospekt where it intersects with Razyezhaya, Rubinstein and Lomonosov streets.
You'll spot the main building by its unique feature. It's one of the symbols of the city, is an apartment house with a turret, built in 1913 in neoclassicism style, designed by architect A.L. Lishnevsky.

9️⃣
T_____ House was constructed in 1910–1912. The architect Fyodor Lidval designed it in Nordic Art Nouveau. The construction is interesting for its inner street with three connected yards where the facades were decorated as richly as the front ones. Three-storey arches leading to the inner street are the architectural dominants of the compositions.

Liteyny Avenue is one of the most important main roads in the city centre.

Anna A_____. A poet with an unhappy fate, who survived wars and repression. Her poetry is recognized as a 20th century classic. Anna A_____ Literary and Memorial Museum is located at Liteyny Avenue.

The F_____ House. One of Sheremetev brothers' palaces that acquired its name because of its proximity to the Fontaka river. The Anna A_____ Museum and Saint Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music are located inside.

Joseph B_____. A winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature and without doubt one of Russia's best poets. He also wrote poetry in English.

L_____ Book. A sad book, similar to a cartoon character, settled in October 2021 on a bench in the courtyard of Printing House No. 3 on Liteiny. The author of the unusual sculpture is a graduate of the Repin Academy of Arts Veronica Bernard
It refers to a historical episode: in 1863, not far from this place, the poet and publisher Nikolai Nekrasov, who lived at 36 Liteiny Street, lost the manuscript (рукопись) of Chernyshevsky's What Is to Be Done?

M_____ House is located at 24, Liteyny Avenue. Joseph B_____ lived here and his writing In a Room and a Half (Полторы комнаты) is devoted to this building. There is a memorial apartment in it. You can also visit a lovely bookshop The End of a Beautiful Era (Конец прекрасной эпохи).

The P_____ Izdania society was established in 1926 and for the last 50 years has been located in the same building. The bookshop is one of the best in Saint Petersburg. It offers a wide selection of literature, friendly assistants ready to answer your every question, ceiling-high bookshelves and a cafe with panoramic windows.
